Introduction In the first part of this series of articles, the definition of reverse engineering and its applications in various sciences, industries, and processes were explained. Undoubtedly, you have already realized that reverse engineering is not a method for use just in industries, but also has a much wider application. From solving problems and testing methods to analyzing macro-defense and economic strategies of countries. Methods of extracting the geometric dimensions Reverse engineering of a device requires three types of information. At first glance, it may seem that the most important one will be a correct and complete understanding of geometric properties. There are various methods and equipment for accurately measuring the dimensions of the part as the first step of the reverse engineering process. From a technological point of view, measurement methods in mechanical engineering are divided into two parts: Manual method(traditional) Computer-assisted method(modern) Traditional laying methods include types of equipment such as micrometers, calipers, launchers, gauges, fixtures, etc. Geometry measurement with modern methods Advances in technology and the need to increase acceleration, reduce human intervention and error, and increase the accuracy and dimensional comparability of complex surfaces have led to the development and development of other methods for measuring the dimensions of components. For example, it is not possible to study the exact dimensions of the blade surface of a gas turbine with traditional methods. On the other hand, this measurement was necessary to regularly monitor the full dimensions of production parts in a factory, especially in sensitive parts to increase the quality of machine performance and prevent hazards. Therefore, methods based on computer systems and with the help of mechanical and optical sensors were presented in scientific and industrial centers. These methods are often used in quality factories and companies for quality control and other companies for reverse engineering. From these methods and equipment, the following can be mentioned. - CMM(Coordinate Measuring Machine) - Laser Scanner - Cloud point Scanner In CMM systems, which are the most accurate computer dimensional measuring equipment, a very accurate sensor(Probe) mechanically touch the surface of the object and is measured by sensors to measure the exact dimensions of the part. This system is very accurate but its measurement speed is low. Laser Scanner equipment uses to check profiles accurately and fast. For example, in a bearing production line, this type of device can be used to measure Bore and OD or to check the cross-sectional profile of a gear. The advantage of Laser Scanner devices is their very high speed. with the laser measuring method, the cross-section of equipment and parts can be done even without stopping the production line. the Cloud of Points is one of the newest technologies used in the industry which is mostly used in reverse engineering. Cloud of point devices, using image processing systems, creates a mass of points from the part. These points are usually very accurate. These points are visually like a cloud.  And for this reason, it is called the Cloud of point. The advantage of the cloud of point technology is that the information of this method can be read by fifth-generation mechanical engineering software(such as Solidworks or Catia) .this information can be easily edited into files in various formats and Converted to CAD software. The accuracy of cloud point devices is sometimes up to 5 microns. SolidWorks software has included one of the best user interfaces for converting cloud point files to 3D models in its new versions. Therefore, combining this software with cloud point technology will result in one of the best, fastest, and most accurate measurement methods in the reverse engineering process.

What does product design mean? Product design is the process of reviewing, providing solutions, building, and presenting a product to meet customer needs. Since there are no the same definitions of " product design " in different industries and disciplines, two general definitions of this concept are provided. One definition is a word and the other is a series of actions and activities. In a word, product design means the characteristics of an artifact including its form and shape (from an aesthetic point of view, the tactile sense of a device) and its function (including capabilities). But as a process, it means a set of actions and strategies, from the Idea Generation stage to the final stage of Commercialization. Basically, product designers conceptualize and evaluate different ideas and then define them as research in industrial and scientific formats. The role of product designers is to combine art, science, and technology to create services and products that people or companies use. The growing role of these people (product designers) is now evolving using the technologies and tools of the virtual world, which include software for design, analysis, simulation, and group building and integration. This software allows designers to communicate and analyze all aspects of the design by communicating effectively and like-minded, and finally provide products that, in addition to higher quality, require less cost, time, and manpower than in the past.
